Recently I had a chance to visit my sister, brother-in-law, and nieces in the beautiful, iconic ski town of Breckenridge, Colorado.
It took me 3 or 4 tries to get this shot. It turned out that early morning before sunrise was the time to get the light balanced just right for the ski slopes, a purple sky and still have the town illuminated by artificial light.
This is a composite of three different images with different shutter speeds. One to capture the snow-covered mountain peaks in the background, with the right color of dark purple/blue sky. One picture was a much longer exposure to get the ambient light of the city on the buildings. One picture was to capture the city without overexposing.
This image was commissioned by the Ramada Hotel in Frisco, Colorado. There is a 20″ x 30″ metal print of this image hanging in the lobby.
