Project Description

The high school football playoffs. These boys have worked all season to get here. They’ll remember this game for the rest of their life.

On this day I was shooting for the Beckley Register-Herald. One of the best parts about the playoffs is that they are held during the day on Saturday, which makes for better light.

This game was between the Fayetteville Pirates and the Midland Trail Patriots. When these two teams play during the regular season, the game is referred to as the Battle for the Bridge because the two schools are separated by the New River Gorge and the iconic New River Gorge Bridge.

Another great thing about this game is that it was played on natural grass, or perhaps I should say mud. This is becoming less and less common as schools are installing the artificial playing surface.
