Show Me The Stars

Environmental portrait photography. The goal is to use the environment to help tell the story of the subject of the picture.

In this particular image the story, which I made up, is about a young lady who lives in the city and comes to the mountains to see the stars for her first time.

This image is also a composite image. The stars are taken from an astro photography shot I had done the previous summer. It was a 30-second long exposure. Additionally, I lit some of the trees separately from the couple after they left, in order to have a more night time look.

This picture was part of my senior show for graduation from West Virginia State University in Institute, West Virginia.

The theme of my show was photography in the style of Norman Rockwell, one of the most prolific American artists of the 20th century. Everyone loves Norman Rockwell.

I read Norman Rockwell’s autobiography. If you have a chance to read it, I highly recommend it.
